INTRODUCTION
This project is a redesign of Tắt Đèn by Ngô Tất Tố, a Vietnamese novel that reflects poverty, injustice, and the pain of people living under social oppression. Instead of creating a literal image from the story, I wanted the cover to communicate the emotional weight of the book. I used darkness, rough texture, and a small sense of light to suggest struggle, silence, and fragile hope. The goal was to make the cover feel quiet but powerful, allowing viewers to understand the mood of the story before they even open the book.
DESIGNING METHOD
For this redesign, I began by studying the emotional tone of Tắt Đèn, especially the themes of poverty, oppression, darkness, and survival. Instead of illustrating the story directly, I used a more symbolic approach with shadow, rough texture, contrast, and a small sense of light. I tested different compositions and typography treatments to create a cover that feels quiet, heavy, and emotionally connected to the novel.
